Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, Met Students of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics

On 23 November, 2018, Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, met the students of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics for the second time.
5 years ago during the last visit Mr Poroshenko was talking about the perspectives of the Association and Free Trade Area with the EU for Ukraine. He also mentioned the importance of supporting Ukraine’s European development vector while talking to young people.
In the President’s opinion, moving Ukraine in the direction of the European Union and NATO membership is the head of state duty which must be stipulated in the Constitution of Ukraine. Mr Poroshenko said: “When five years ago the students believed in possibility of the Association Agreement – it came true indeed. And now you are a driving force as well and I need your support to bring Ukraine to the EU and NATO”.
Mr Poroshenko emphasized again that Ukraine is not going to join NATO to beg for help, but it’s going to be a partner in security protection since Ukrainian army is one of the top 10 strongest armies on the continent. He also believes that after joining NATO Ukrainian economy will strengthen too. “Ukraine will get new investments. When we are in NATO, the investors will not be concerned about safety of their investments, therefore, new investments will come, new state-of-the-art equipment and new highly paid work places” the President said.
“And the most important is that our youth will get fantastic, safe, the most beautiful and the best country in the world – Ukraine, the country which we all love and respect”, the Head of State summed up.
The students were very active while communicating with the President. They asked questions about student life and higher education neds, as well as about the state development strategy.
Anatoliy A. Mazaraki, the KNUTE rector, expressed his deepest gratitude to the President for his concern about the challenges that Ukrainian higher education in general and KNUTE in particular have.
At the end of the meeting the President suggested taking a common picture just like last time, five years ago.
