Behavioral Economics in the Focus of Young Researchers – Students of DTEU
General Information
On November 6, 2025, the State University of Trade and Economics hosted the Student Roundtable Discussion «The Behavioral Dimension of Economic Development in the Context of Post-War Recovery (On the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Birth of Nobel Laureate in Economics Richard Thaler)», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Nobel laureate Richard Thaler – one of the most famous founders of behavioral economics.
The event brought together 42 active and creative students who are researching modern economic challenges and looking for ways to effectively restore Ukraine through the prism of human behavior, trust and social responsibility. Teachers from the Department of Economic Theory and Competition Policy, the Department of International Management and the Department of World Economy took part in their preparation.
The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss the applied significance of the ideas of behavioral economics for building effective state, social and business policies in the post-war period in Ukraine.
The roundtable participants were welcomed by Yurii Umantsiv, Head of the Department of Economic Theory and Competition Policy, who noted the relevance of the event's topic, emphasized the importance of developing behavioral economics as a tool for Ukraine's post-war recovery, and wished young researchers new scientific achievements.
The participants shared their thoughts on the use of behavioral tools in shaping economic policy; Richard Thaler's ideas in the context of the state's social responsibility; international experience in the "trust economy"; behavioral strategies in management and marketing; ethical dilemmas between freedom of choice and "nudge".
Student speeches developed into a lively discussion about how behavioral science can help Ukraine recover, rebuild its economy, and create conditions for sustainable growth.
The participants were inspired to an active dialogue by the roundtable moderators Volodymyr Humeniuk, Kateryna Nikolaiets, Tetyana Ozhelevska and Oleksandr Zhurba, who supported the creative atmosphere and helped turn the scientific discussion into a real exchange of ideas about the future of the Ukrainian economy.
The organizing committee expresses sincere gratitude to all participants for their inspiration, deep ideas and creative perspective on the challenges of the post-war economy of Ukraine!
Together we build an economy of trust, development and the future!
