Rector Anatolii Mazaraki Joins Diplomatic Initiative of the Embassy of Cyprus to Restore Mariupol State University Library
General Information
The State University of Trade and Economics (SUTE) has demonstrated its respect for Ukraine's international partners. Rector of SUTE Anatolii Mazaraki took part in a solemn ceremony of handing over a book collection to Mariupol State University (MSU) – a large-scale campaign initiated by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Ukraine.
The presence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Ukraine, Mr. Michalis Firillas, lent particular significance to the event. His initiative to donate the book collection marked a decisive milestone in the restoration of the Library of Hellenic Studies named after Konstantinos Leventis, which was lost following the occupation of Mariupol. This event testified to a high level of solidarity and the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to facilitate the restoration of the scientific and educational potential.
The event at the MSU front office in Kyiv turned into a powerful diplomatic platform. In addition to the Embassy of Cyprus, the event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps of Greece, Latvia, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, demonstrating the steadfast unity of the European community around supporting Ukrainian education.
SUTE Rector Anatolii Mazaraki emphasized the importance of such diplomatic gestures for the academic community. Support from the Embassy of Cyprus is an example of how cultural diplomacy can realistically impact the restoration of Ukraine's intellectual capital. Most of the donated publications are unique Greek and English-language literature dedicated to the history, political processes, and art of Cyprus, which opens new horizons for researchers.
For the State University of Trade and Economics, participation in such events is part of its international solidarity strategy. We highly value the efforts of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus and Ambassador Michalis Phyrillas personally in preserving cultural heritage and strengthening ties between Ukraine and the countries of the Mediterranean region.
