Paradoxical Theory of Change: Lecture by Jay Levin

General Information

April 20, 2016, on the eve of All-Ukrainian Psychologist’s Day, Jay Levin presented a lecture "Paradoxical Theory of Change" in the Congress Center of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics. It was a part of III International Festival of Organizational, Economic and Practical Psychology «Wisdom of Generations» SAPIENTIA GENERATIÓNES. 300 people including KNUTE students and professors as well as guests from other cities attended the lecture.

Briefly stated, the sense of paradoxical theory of change is that change occurs when one becomes what he is, not when he/she tries to become what he/she is not. Change does not take place through a coercive attempt by the individual or by another person to change him/her, but it does take place if one takes the time and effort to be what he/she is — to be fully invested in his/her current positions. By rejecting the role of change agent, we make meaningful and orderly change possible. The author of this theory is Beisser Arnold, a disciple of F. Perls who is the founder of the School of Gestalt therapy.

Jay Levin is a Gestalt therapist, supervisor, international GATLA trainer. A clinical psychologist from South Africa now lives in Florida (USA); he is a Los Angeles Gestalt Association leading specialist and a European Association for Gestalt Therapy supervisor.

Kyiv Gestalt and Psychodrama Institute was a co-organizer of the event.

The third International Festival of Organizational, Economic and Practical Psychology «Wisdom of Generations» SAPIENTIA GENERATIÓNES will be held April 22, 2016 in the KNUTE (D building).
