Ukrainian team took part in the World Culinary Olympics for the first time in its history and won gold medals

General Information

World Culinary Olympics is the most prestigious gastronomic event among professionals (chefs, hoteliers, restaurateurs, confectioners, HoReCa suppliers), held as part of the Inoga-2016, International Exhibition in hotel, restaurant and catering business areas. Culinary competitions are held every four years and are considered the largest congress of chefs on the planet. The first Culinary Olympics took place in Germany in 1900.

World Culinary Olympics - 2016 was held on 22-25 October 2016 in Erfurt (Germany), where about 2,000 chefs from 52 different countries demonstrated their skills. Olympics attracted more than 25 thousand viewers.

Ukraine has got such Olympics results: 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals, 7 winners, and 10 team members. Liudmyla Riske (gold medal winner) and Nataliia Rusyn (silver medal winner) are KNUTE students (Master’s degree academic qualification in Hotel and Restaurant Business). Larysa Rybchuk (silver medal winner) is a post-graduate of KNUTE Technology and Restaurant Business Department.

Considering the urgency of harmonizing national culinary traditions with international standards of gastronomic culture and culinary tourism, specialists’ professional development, "Ukrainian culinary union" public association prepared a team to represent our country at the Olympics for the first time in the history of domestic culinary art.

10 master confectioners from different regions, including three students of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, who are the winners of many national and international culinary competitions, upheld the honour of Ukraine. Mariia Shramko, a global scale master, repeat winner of international culinary competitions and international judge, mentored and inspired the Ukrainian team.

Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the peculiarities of preparation, terms and conditions of the international culinary competition to decently represent the National Olympic team of culinary arts at the next World Culinary Olympics – 2020.

The participation of the national team at the World Culinary Olympics contributed to the formation of Ukraine's image in the international culinary community, increase of interest to national culinary traditions, exchange of innovative professional experience, and promotion of the country at the international level.
