Meeting on the implementation of national standards in the field of tourism and resorts
General Information
The meeting on the implementation of national standards in the field of tourism and resorts was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on January 27, 2017. The representatives of the following departments participated in the meeting: the Department of Tourism and Resorts, the Department of Technical Regulations, the «Ukrainian Research and Training Centre for Standardization, Certification and Quality Problems» State Enterprise, the National Agency of Standardization, Technical Committees for Standardization, the Ukrainian Association for Quality, the Ukrainian Adventure and Ecotourism Association and others.
Representatives of Technical Committee for Standardization TC 118 "Trade, restaurant, tourism and exhibition services" were invited to take part in the meeting. Functions of its secretariat are performed by Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, headed by the rector Anatoliy A. Mazaraki, the head of TC, D.Sc. Economics, professor.
Following TC 118 representatives took part in the meeting:
Natalia V. Prytulska, deputy head of the TC, the first vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work, D.Sc. Tech, professor;
Tetiana I. Tkachenko, the head of the "Tourism and Services in the Tourism Sector" subcommittee, the head of the Tourism and Recreation department, D.Sc. Economics, professor;
Natalia O. Sahalakova, executive secretary of the TC, associate professor of Tourism and Recreation department, Ph.D. in Economics, associate professor.
11 national standards in the field of tourism and resorts were adopted and harmonized with the international and European regulatory documents in 2016 by the TC 118. In 2017 the following three standards were added to the TC 118 National Standardization Work Program: ISO 17679: 2016 - Tourism and Related Services - Wellness Spa - Service Requirements; ISO 17049: 2013 - Accessible design - Application of Braille on Signage, Equipment and Appliances.; ISO 23599: 2012 - Assistive Products for Blind and Vision-Impaired Persons - Tactile Walking surface indicators.
Taking into consideration difficulties, which national institutions and tourism entities face during receiving and usage of national standards, which do not have an official translation, the necessity of discussing some problems occurred.
During the meeting the implementation of national standards in the field of tourism and resorts was considered, especially the mechanism of receiving, usage and distribution of national standards by national institutions and tourism entities and conducting of the respective explanatory work. In addition, the providing of official translation of valid national standards adopted by the method of proof was discussed.
During the discussion, the participants agreed on the necessity of creation of National Quality System in tourism, based on valid national standards.
