KNUTE Teachers Learnt about New Teaching Methods at International School of Helsinki, Finland

General Information

Yuliia Hladka, Associate Professor of the Advanced and Applied Mathematics Department visited International School of Helsinki where she had a chance to learn more about new teaching methods used in this school.

The educational institution is included into the world system of schools that provide training according to the International Baccalaureate  World School programme. There are more than 4000 educational institutions in over 145 countries that work in compliance with this programme.

One of the main principles that this system is based on is that its education philosophy is centered on learners. It is of primary importance to encourage independent critical thinking of students, to ensure necessary conditions for creative development and revealing scientific potential of each of them.

Peter Welch, Head of International School of Helsinki, says that it is vital to increase and broaden students’ rights and opportunities so that they could be equal participants of academic process, could influence it with their inspiration and enthusiasm. He also emphasized the importance of using information technoloy as it helps to ensure that learning process does not stop beyond the school or university.

During her visit to the International School of Helsinki Y.Hladka found out more about teaching mathematical disciplines within International Baccalaureate programme. Her Finnish colleagues wished her success and further cooperation.
