Department background. The department was established in 1993. The department trained specialists in the specialty "Finance and Credit" specialization "Public Finance", "Taxes and Taxation". Since 1996 the department begins to train specialists for the State Treasury Service of Ukraine. Since 1998 the department has trained specialists in insurance.

Department head: Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in science and technology Igor Chugunov.

Scientific and teaching potential: the teaching staff of the department is formed of specialists who have high scientific and practical experience, which provides an opportunity to carry out high-quality teaching and methodological activities, and leadership of the scientific work of students, graduate students, and doctoral students.

The teaching staff of the department is 19 teachers,
including 8 doctors of economic sciences, and 9 Ph.D. in economic sciences.

Department partners. The main areas of cooperation of the Department of Finance with partners are: conducting relevant research, scientific and practical conferences and seminars; advanced training of central government employees; department teachers internship in the central government; involvement of central government employees by heads of examination commissions, passing of industrial (undergraduate) practice by department students.

The department has concluded cooperation agreements with central government agencies, and local authorities, where students of the department have an internship and have the opportunity to get a job, in particular:

Domestic and foreign leading scientists and practitioners conduct open lectures on public finance,
budget and tax policy, and insurance management.

Department science. Among the department's research interests is research on the development of public finance management system, and the formation, and implementation of fiscal policy.
The main research topics of the department: "Development of the budget system of Ukraine", "Public finance management as a component of socio-economic development of the country", "Public expenditures as a component of the budget regulation of the economy", "Formation of local budgets in economic transformation", "Financial mechanism ensuring socio-economic development of Ukraine", "Financial policy in conditions of economic transformations", "Budget policy in conditions of limited financial resources", "Institutional architecture of budget revenues in the system of financial and economic regulation", "Financial support of social protection in modern economic conditions", "Budget strategy of economic growth".​

The Department of Finance has a scientific school on the financial and budgetary strategy of socio-economic development of the country (the head of the school is a Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Finance Igor Chugunov).

The department graduates continue their studies in postgraduate and doctoral studies. The university has a Specialized Academic Council D. 26.055.03 for the defense of dissertations for the degree of doctorate and Ph.D. in economics in the specialty 08.00.08 - money, finance, and credit.

14 dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Economics and 80 dissertations for Ph.D. in Economic Sciences were defended in the Specialized Academic Council.

Department international cooperation. An important area of work of the Department of Finance is international activities aimed at integration into the educational and scientific world space, cooperation with foreign leading higher education institutions, and research institutes, and participation of students and teachers in international educational and scientific programs.

Students and graduates of the department. Students of the Department of Finance are multiple winners of All-Ukrainian competitions of student research papers, All-Ukrainian Student Olympiads in "Finance and Credit", specialization "Public Finance", "Insurance", All-Ukrainian Student Scientific Conferences.
Graduates of the Department of Finance work as heads of relevant departments of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the State Treasury Service of Ukraine, the State Audit Service of Ukraine, the State Tax Service of Ukraine, the Pension Fund of Ukraine and other central government bodies and local authorities.
