KNUTE Student Received the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Youth in Development of Ukraine

General Information

Congratulations to Mykhailo Trotsenko, KNUTE 1st-year student majoring in International Economics on receiving the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Youth in Development of Ukraine, for protection of population, territories, environment and property from emergencies, environmental protection, animal protection (Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 22, 2020 # 923-r). The ceremony took place on October 2, 2020 within the walls of the Cabinet of Ministers. Oleh Nemchinov, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, awarded the winners on behalf of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

Mykhailo makes a significant contribution to the greening of his native village Krynychky, Dnipropetrovsk region, organizes ecological festivals and promotes waste sorting. He is a co-founder of the Root of Ecology public organization.

He started his career at the age of 14. Then in 2017 he and his classmate registered a public organization.

At first, they were just interested in the topic of ecology and shared information with friends, then decided to make their own eco-bags and sell them so that community members would gradually begin to understand the benefits of using reusable bags. The bags were made of agro textile. This material is quite cheap and completely harmless to the environment. The guys did not make bags themselves, but ordered them from various textile companies. At first, bags were sold individually at mass events, and then they were sold in small batches through grocery stores, as well as at various environmental meetings and events.

Then Mykhailo and his friend became interested in the topic of separate waste collection and the circular economy in general. They decided to write a project in order to attract grant funds to implement their own initiatives. Subsequently, Ulead announced a competition for the best projects in carrying out educational work in the field of solid waste management at the municipal level. M. Trotsenko's team became one of the winners. Thus, they managed to attract more than UAH 250, 000 for their eco-project "Waste from a different angle".

Within the framework of this project, educational work was carried out, but at a completely different level than before. It covered all segments of the population in the native amalgamated territorial community, from children in kindergartens, who were told in a playful way about the importance of proper solid waste management, to farmers who were able to express their problems related to environmental pollution and find possible ways of solution. The founders of the project also granted 1,000 eco-bags for the population of their community. They also bought 42 tanks for separate garbage collection, installed near kindergartens, schools and hospitals.

Now Mykhailo plans to establish another public organization – an agrarian one, aiming to popularize this area among youth.

We wish Mikhail success both in public life and in his studies!
