Participation of SUTE rector in the EUA Leadership Roundtable on Research Ethics and Integrity in the Context of New Technologies Development

General Information

On May 31, 2023, Prof. Anatolii Mazaraki, rector of SUTE, took part in the European University Association Roundtable "Institutional Approaches to Research Ethics and Integrity: Let's Talk About New Technologies". This event is open to university leaders from EUA member universities who are willing to actively contribute to the exchange.. The meeting was devoted to discussing the impact of technological development on academic integrity and ethical challenges in scientific and research activities affecting on university governance. In the context of accelerating technological and social change, the question of timely development of realistic, effective and sustainable research ethics and integrity (RE&I) policies is being raised by university leaders.

The panel discussion featured presentations by:

  • Senena Corbalán, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Murcia, R&I Strategy Group Member at EUA (Spain).
  • Andreas Zimmer, Vice-Rector for Research and Early-Career Researchers at the University of Bonn (Germany).
  • Edwin C. Constable, Former Vice-Rector at the University of Basel, President of the Expert Group on Scientific Integrity at the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences (Switzerland).
  • Barry O’Sullivan, Professor at University College Cork, Vice Chair of the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on AI (2018-2020) (Ireland).

Participation in the breakout sessions helped to identify challenges in research and innovation faced by universities and their governance, in particular those related to new technologies, to find sustainable solutions and promote mutual learning on issues in this area, and to explore the role of research ethics committees (RECs) from the perspective of university governance.

The roundtable was an effective platform for discussing opportunities for holding trainings to develop and implement relevant practices in universities.
