The International Scientific and Practical Conference titled «Europeanization of National Law: Problems, Challenges, and Prospects»

The State University of Trade and Economics proudly hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference titled «Europeanization of National Law: Problems, Challenges, and Prospects» on April 24, 2024. This significant event brought together a diverse group of 65 participants.
Co-organizers of the conference:

- Jagiellonian University (Poland);
- Casimir the Great University (Poland);
- Krakow University of Economics (Poland);
- University of Rzeszow (Poland);
- Pedagogical University of the National Education Commission in Krakow.
The Dean of the Faculty of International Trade and Law, Yulia GONCHAROVA, inaugurated the conference with a compelling address on the significance of the Europeanization of national law. She highlighted the process as a pivotal adaptation of national legislation to align with EU standards, offering a pathway to the harmonization of legal systems. Despite the inherent challenges, Dean Yulia GONCHAROVA underscored the optimistic outlook for the Europeanization process, recognizing its potential to foster legal system development and fortify the foundations of democracy.
Judge Aleksandra SOLTYSINSKA, a distinguished member of the District Court of Krakow and a Professor at Jagiellonian University in Poland, presented a significant report at the conference. Her discourse provided an insightful overview of Poland’s experience with the Europeanization of law. She elaborated on the multifaceted aspects of this transformative process, which Poland has navigated over the course of its two-decade-long membership in the European Union. Her expertise shed light on the practical implications and the broader impact of European legal integration on national legislation.
The conference brought together representatives of leading educational institutions from different countries and well-known legal experts. Among them:
- Renata SLIWA, Professor of the University of National Education Commission, Krakow (Poland);
- Nicholas ZALEWSKI, Chiara FERRO, Fabio TESTA, representatives of the University of Naples Federico II (Italy);
- Maria Nicola BUONOCORE, representative of Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia);
- Valentina CHABERT, representative of the University of Rome La Sapienza (Italy).
The conference became a platform for a thorough analysis of topical issues of Europeanization of Ukrainian national law, in particular, the effectiveness of parliamentary control under martial law and the international legal responsibility of the aggressor state for the environmental condition of the occupied territories. The conference participants also focused on the unification of national legal systems and the impact of EU legislation on the development of the law of individual European states.
An electronic compilation of scholarly articles is anticipated, drawing from the outcomes of the conference. This collection will feature summaries of the most impactful and intriguing presentations.
