All-Ukrainian Roundtable “Business and education: partnership amid new challenges”

On October 25, 2024, the State University of Trade and Economics (SUTE) organized and held the All-Ukrainian Roundtable “Business and education: partnership amid new challenges”.
The event was attended by 62 participants including academics staff of SUTE and other higher education institutions, representatives of leading Ukrainian enterprises, NGOs, students and postgraduates. The participants were presented with informative reports in the following areas: the higher education transformation in the context of European integration and post-war recovery of Ukraine; the integration of digital technologies and innovative teaching methods into the educational process; the synergy of education and business to develop labour potential under martial law.
In her welcome speech, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, SUTE First Vice Rector on Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Nataliia Prytulska, greeted the All-Ukrainian Roundtable participants on behalf of the SUTE team and noted the importance of developing partnerships between education and business and finding new formats that will let higher education institutions respond efficiently and flexibly to the needs of the labour.
General Director Of the Directorate of Professional Higher Education Oleh Sharov highlighted the problems of higher education and the priority areas for reforming this sector in the context of European integration and taking into account the demands of martial law. The speaker reviewed the issues of organising a safe educational environment, ensuring the quality of higher education, developing the subjectivity of the student, modernising the network of higher education institutions, obtaining state grants for higher education and developing its institutional environment. Oleh Sharov focused on the strategic goals of higher education development in Ukraine for the next few years.
Oksana Trubei, Director of the Business Simulation Training Centre, PhD in Economics, SUTE Associate Professor of the Economics and Business Finance department, shared the experience of the successful operation of the Business Simulation Training Centre (BSTC) of SUTE, which organises practical training for 4th year bachelor's degree students based on business simulation and other simulation educational technologies, through the reproduction of processes in the real economic system in the classroom. Oksana Trubei presented the results of active cooperation between students and lecturers of the BSTC with leading Ukrainian trading companies, implemented in the projects of retail hubs for the sale of FMCG goods. Ivan Chyvkin, business mentor of one of the retail hub projects, Director of Operations and Development of the Antoshka retail chain, confirmed the effectiveness of such cooperation.
Ihor Krechkevych, Acting Director of the Presidential Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports, informed the roundtable participants about the Foundation's programmes, projects and initiatives that have already been implemented and are planned for the near future. The speaker focused the importance of supporting education as a tool for increasing business potential.
Maryna Dzhulai, CEO Ukraine & Co-founder of the Employer Branding Agency UGEN, presented the analytics of the Best Employer 2024 survey, which was attended by 1760 respondents - current students and graduates of higher education institutions. The survey results helped identify the most attractive areas for young people to find employment and their expectations of employers.
Kateryna Bagatska, Dr. of Econ. Sciences, SUTE Professor of the Economics and Business Finance department, shared her personal experience of providing information and consulting support to SME in preparing a package of documents for government grants to start or develop their own business.
The moderator of the event, SUTE Head of the Economics and Business Finance department, Dr. of Econ. Sciences, Professor Hanna Blakyta, summed up the results of the Roundtable meeting and noted that the foundation for the development of labour potential in the context of martial law and post-war recovery of Ukraine is the openness of business to cooperate with higher education institutions to train personnel whose professional knowledge and skills will meet business expectations.
