The guest lecture "The Birth of Social Banking in Europe" by French researcher Jean-Pierre Caron

General Information

With the support of the Banking Department of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, the second open lecture by renowned French philosopher and expert on ethical finance, Jean-Pierre Caron, took place on October 24, 2024. The lecture, titled "The Birth of Social Banking in Europe," covered the latest trends in the regulation of social banking across Europe and globally, with a focus on state support.

Jean-Pierre Caron discussed the unique characteristics of social banks, the main obstacles to establishing such institutions, and how cultural differences influence "bank-client" relationships, especially when prioritizing people’s needs. He also shared insights from European financial institutions that support the growth of small businesses, particularly in organic agriculture.

The event attracted more than 180 participants, including educators and students from various higher education institutions in Ukraine, as well as members of SUTE’s academic community.

The Banking Department extends its gratitude to Jean-Pierre Caron for his engaging lecture and for openly addressing questions about the challenges and opportunities of implementing social banking in Ukraine.
