The Modern Sound of Scientific Heritage of Mikhail Tugan-Baranovsky

General Information

The State University of Trade and Economics and the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have long-standing partnerships. One of the areas of cooperation between the partners is the organization of joint scientific events. On January 29, 2025, the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine hosted an international scientific and practical conference “Scientific Heritage of Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky as a Conceptual Basis for Social Development”, co-organized by the State University of Trade and Economics. The purpose of the event was to actualize the scientific heritage of the prominent Ukrainian economist and statesman Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky and to promote the creative development of the scientist's scientific ideas to overcome the global risks facing Ukraine in the current environment.

Valeriy Heyets, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Director of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Valeriy Heyets, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academic Secretary of the Department of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Demography and Quality of Life of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Anton Filipenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of International Economists, welcomed the participants of the event.

The plenary session was addressed by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor, President of the Academy of Financial Management Tetiana Yefymenko, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Andriy Grytsenko, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ph, Professor, Head of the Department of International Economics and Social Sciences and Humanities at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology Viktor Tarasevych, as well as scholars from Poland, Bulgaria, and France.

The conference continued its work in the format of discussion panels. Yuriі Umantsiv, Head of the Department of Economics and Competition Policy at SUTE, moderated the discussion panel “The Prognostic Potential of M. Tugan-Baranovsky's Scientific Ideas for Ensuring Economic and National Security”. The conference was also attended by academic staff and students of the State University of Trade and Economics, including professors of the Department of Economics and Competition Policy Kateryna Nikolayets, Iryna Shtunder, associate professors Vladyslav Bolhov, Larysa Lebedeva, Victoria Khrustaleva, Diana Shkuropadska, Yulia Yasko, senior lecturer Oleksandr Zhurba, Ph. Oleksandr Zhurba, doctoral student Vadym Yemets, and postgraduate student Denys Pikalov.

The participants of the conference drew attention to the relevance of the ideas expressed in the works of M. Tugan-Baranovsky for the development of the Ukrainian economy under martial law, its post-war modernization and competitiveness. Recommendations and new ideas expressed in the reports of the conference participants will be implemented in the educational process of the State University of Trade and Economics.
