Злочинний напад російського агресора нагадує мені лише одну подію в історії Польщі - вересень 1939 року та напад на нашу країну нацистської Німеччини та Радянського Союзу. Нехай моє порівняння виявиться перебільшеним. Сподіваюся, ви в безпеці та здорові. І нехай продовжується. На початку 1960-х років, під час блокади Західного Берліна, американський президент Дж.Ф. Кеннеді, стоячи біля Берлінської стіни і виявляючи солідарність з берлінцями, вимовив характерні слова німецькою мовою: «Ich bin ein Berliner» (Я – берлінець). Сьогодні ми, поляки та інші демократичні європейці, повинні кричати: я житель Києва, Харкова, Донецька, Львова, Маріуполя та інших українських міст і сіл, я житель України. Разом з моєю дружиною, з якою ви також мали можливість познайомитися, ми з тобою в думках. Ми віримо, що Україна захистить свою свободу і незалежність, що ми зможемо знову зустрітися, чи то з вами в Києві, з нами в Кракові, чи де ще. Ми також віримо, що російські агресори понесуть заслужене покарання.

we express our deepest regret due to tragic consequences flowing from the Russian aggression and invasion of the Ukrainian territory, freedom, and peace. The information that we receive through the media convinces us that this aggression is aimed not only at military objects but also at innocent civilians. We strongly oppose all military operations on the Ukrainian territory! We admire the brave defensive actions of the Ukrainians! 

We understand that in these challenging times for Ukrainian citizens, students, and scientists, immediate help is a key aspect to preserve the scientific potential of great scientific tradition and great scientists. In response to the above, at the Silesian University of Technology, we prepared a number of programmes that express our solidarity and support addressed to both students and scientists from Ukraine. A small help this may be, I would like to inform you about 1+2 positions for academic economists in Budapest. 

Full-time visiting researcher: The Centre for Economic and Regional Studies (CERS) is joining the „Global Research Groups Supporting Ukrainian Scientists” initiative. The global community has created a continuously updated list (https://bit.ly/ua-table) of laboratories that can host Ukrainian scientists at all career levels. CERS is offering a fully-funded guest researcher position to an academic researcher in economics or regional science, who fled the country due to the war in Ukraine.
